Illusions.

No, this isn't computer magic.  The model is really sitting on what seems to be a flat painting of a chair. How? Japanese design studio YOY has premiered a new line of 2 dimensional-looking hanging furniture pieces.  Made with elastic fabric and grounded by the wall and extra weights, the "canvas" is able to hold the model and it's own shape. Awesome.

Vibe with nature.

The beautiful things you can do with printed photographs has no limit.  I ran across Matthew Brandt's: Lakes, Trees, and Honeybees and was instantly a fan.  It seems that he soaks his prints in water to create this distressed style.  Fucking genius,  I just want to be awesome like him when I grow up.

Experimentation.

I love the power of experimentation with photography, especially the flexibility of long and double exposures.  Nadia Maria, a Sao Paulo native, has recently caught my eye with her unique version of photographic experimentation.

Her photos are not only captivating but the choices she's made create a subtle texture within each photo.   She's inspired me to challenge my outlook when capturing photos and I love it.

Namibian Nights.

Time Lapse videos always blow me away and this one is no different.   Marsel van Oosten is the director of this completely awesome movie that was apparently made using only images that he captured over a 2 year span.  Not only is this super short movie completely captivating but it was all shot at night. The whole time I was watching the video I couldn't help but think....."his camera must be intergalactic-awesome" lol. Enjoy!

Photoshop?

Nah. More like actual sculptures made by Sam Jinks entitled Unsettled Dogs.  He's a master at making sculptures so realistic it pushes the boundaries of actuality and imagination. Created with silicone, pigment, resin and hair one can easily mistake his artwork with being tampered photographs, but there is always proof....

Taum St.

By no means do I intend on making this blog feature solely my own artwork, but I had a photo-shoot assignment for a class and I thought it was worth sharing so.....

Visit.

If  "the CAMH" (Contemporary Art Museum of Houston) doesn't sound familiar to you, get in your car and drive there now. It's awesome; just do it.  They currently have an exhibit showing entitled "Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art".

GoToThisExhibitionBeforeItCloses on Feb. 15 because:
1.  It's Free.
2.  It's one of the most awesome exhibits I've ever seen.
3.  They allow photos (with no flash) so you can take as many Instagram pictures as you'd like :)
4.  There's a store on the bottom floor filled with all the gadgety stuff you'd see at Urban Outfitters.
5.  It's Free.

We never look up.

It's ironic because you're probably looking down to read this on a computer or phone, right?
I spend a lot of my time looking around at hundreds of hunchbacks who can't seem to look up from their phones.  It looks as though our people skills have gone strictly digital and we have no time for appreciating the things that are tangible and that surrounds us.  It's time to look up.

If you've never visited a museum or went to an art event or even just looked at someone's work online, I'm going to brighten your life. If you are savvy to the art culture, you're awesome and you'll love this blog.

.....let's vibe!
